Laser Hair Removal
FAQ's

What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal works by selectively concentrating light energy in the hair follicle, destroying its blood supply and leaving the surrounding skin unchanged.  Laser Hair Removal is faster, easier and more effective than other methods of hair removal and can be performed on almost any area of the body.

Hair grows in cycles.  The Laser targets the dark, pigmented hair in the follicle when it’s in an Active state.  When hairs are in a Dormant state they will not be targeted. These will be targeted when they become Active again.  Thus, a series of treatments are provided at 4-8 week intervals in order to target new hairs in an Active state.

Why Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal is permanent hair reduction. Laser Hair Removal is faster, easier and more effective than other methods of hair removal and can be performed on almost any area of the body.

Benefits:
No razor irritation
No ingrown hairs
No ripping of the skin from waxing
Longer, permanent relief from hair re-growth than other methods.  (see “What to expect” for hair growth cycles)

How much does is cost?
Please call or email our office for an estimate.  We will discuss your wish list of services.

Why do you need a consultation?
Everyone’s skin is different.   We gather information as to your tanning habits, skin type and medical conditions. Most importantly, we educate our clients on the procedure so you know what to expect and how to optimize your results.  Our consultations are always free.

How many treatments are needed?
Hair grows in cycles.  The Laser targets the dark, pigmented hair in the follicle when it’s in an Active state.  When hairs are in a Dormant state they will not be targeted. These will be targeted when they become Active again.  Thus, a series of treatments are provided at 6-8 week intervals in order to target new hairs in an Active state.

The number of treatments needed also depends upon the following factors:
Treatment Area
Skin Type
Hair color, texture and density
Hormonal influences
Ethnicity
Metabolism
Medications
Hair Growth Cycles

A minimum of 6-7 treatments provides excellent results and considerably reduces grooming habits.  Because every client is different, we offer Maintenance and Long Term Maintenance at 50-75% savings for those who require additional treatments.

Payment Methods
Cash, Master Card, Visa, American Express and PayPal
We sell Gift Certificates

How long between treatments?
Each body part and person is different.  After your first treatment, we will determine a customized treatment schedule based on your re-growth in each different treatment area.  4-8 weeks depending on the treatment area.    Facial hair growth is usually hormonal.  We customize the schedule accordingly.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?
Everyone has a different threshold for pain. The feeling is best described as if you were snapped with a rubber band.  The laser shoots out a cooling spray before each laser pulse.  This both protects the skin and provides relief.  You can purchase Dr. Numb, a topical numbing cream, at our office.  Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment to apply the product as we cannot assist you due to liability.

Who are the best Laser Hair Removal candidates?
People with dark hair or pigmented hair in the area you want treated. **White, Blond and Red hairs are not treatable**

Our GentleLase (Alexandrtie Laser 755 nm wave length) accommodates very fair to golden to medium skin tones. ( Skin Types 1-3 )

Our GentleYAG (Nd:Yag Laser 1064 nm wave length) accommodates medium brown to dark brown skinned clients.  (Skin Types 4-6)

What are the risks?
Hyper and hypo-pigmentation, which is a marking of the skin.  This can occur when clients omit information regarding sun exposure, medications and medical conditions.  These side effects, while rare, fade away in a short period of time.  We ask you the pertinent questions when you come for a consultation and before each treatment.

Sun exposure and light sensitive medications are the biggest risk factors.

If you are on light sensitive antibiotics, you will have to postpone your treatment.

If you plan to have the treated area immediately exposed to the sun, you will need postpone treatments or agree to avoid exposing the area(s) to the sun.  Schedule your visit 7 -14 days before you leave for a sunny vacation.

What do I do to prepare for Laser Hair Removal?
Avoid sun exposure prior to and after treatment.

Stop all light sensitive medications 7-10 days prior to treatment.  Some medications require a 6-12 month wait.

Shaving is the only acceptable method of hair removal. No bleaching, waxing, plucking or anything to pull the hair out of the follicle prior to and during treatment.

Shave and Clean the area. Treatment area must be clean, free of deodorant and lotion.  The area should be shaved the evening before treatment.
